  • FUTURE & CONDITIONAL FORMATION

The future and conditional of regular verbs use the entire infinitive as the stem. To form the future add: -é -ás -á -emos -éis -án. To form the conditional add: -ía, -ías, -ías, íamos, íais, ían.

Irregular verbs use a truncated form of the infinitive as their stem. These truncated infinitive forms fall into three types:

  • FUTURE USES
  1. In general, Spanish Future is used like the English future will+infinitive: Iremos = We will go. Comerás= You will eat. Estudiará= S/he will study
  2. Spanish Future can be used to express probability in the present: -¿Dónde estará María?= ¿Dónde crees tú que está? (Where you suppose María is?)
  • CONDITIONAL USES
  1. Spanish Conditional is used like English conditional would+infinitive (except when would means "used to"):
  2. Spanish Conditional can be used for probability in the past: ¿Dónde estaría María?
    Where do you suppose María was?
  3. Spanish conditional is also used to express politeness: ¿Me podrías decir dónde está María

  • PRESENT PERFECT SUBJUNCTIVE: FORMATION AND USES.
  1. The present perfect subjunctive is formed with the present subjunctive of the verb haber (haya, hayas, haya, hayamos, hayais, hayan) and the past participle form of the verb (hablado, comido, bebido). To form the past participle ad -ado to the stem of -ar verbs, and -ido to the stem of -er and -ir verbs. Remember that there are a few irregular past participles that you must memorize.
  2. The present perfect subjunctive is used to
    refer to actions or situations that occur before the action
    of the main verb when the main verb is in the present,
